Staples is waiving the $6.95 purchase fee on $200 Visa gift cards through 1/19 in-store only.
Use your Chase Ink Cash Business Card or Ink Plus card and get 5 points per dollar spent. Or use your AMEX SimplyCash Card to earn 5% cash back.
You can purchase as many cards as your store will allow in one transaction and the fee will be waived. Some stores may have a limit of 1 while other stores may have no limits.
If you buy 10 of the $200 Visa gift cards you’ll earn 10,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points by charging it to an Ink Cash card. If you use your points at an average value of 2 cents each, then that’s like getting $200 back!
You can use the gift cards to buy money orders at Walmart or at various grocery stores and gas stations. Just use the last 4 digits of the card as the PIN number to cash them out.
Or you can donate the gift card to charity and get a receipt for the full face value while earning 5 points per dollar.
Or you can give away a gift card as a wedding or Bar Mitzvah gift.
Or you can always use it for everyday spending while earning 5% or 5 Chase Ultimate Rewards points per dollar everywhere!

Would the amex 10% off promo work on these?
Sure.
I have the 10% Amex offer for my brother and wife, but they haven’t met the minimum spending on these cards yet. Since Staples reports L3 data, should they still take advantage and just spend extra (not count it towards the minimum spending), or is there any Amex risk for clawback bonus due to GC’s
Do they wave the fee for gift cards bought with any card? I have a different chase card I would like touse. .
Yes.
How do you do the money order and where?
Same question Dan, do you have a link to more information on how to use towards purchasing money orders? I’m in the LA region and from what I have read the money order policies vary from region to region for walmart/grocery stores.
$2000 here towards my Southwest required companion pass spend!
Ugh. My three regular Staples stores (SoCal) are strictly enforcing the 1 card per customer limit. It’s going to be a looong week.
SoCal is LAX or San Diego?e
I’m in the L.A. area. While there’re a ton of Staples stores in L.A., my area probably has too many of us, so maybe others elsewhere in L.A. will have more luck. It’s not worth it (to me) to drive more than 5 or 6 miles away to buy these, so I’m planning on going to my local stores every single day this week, hence the “ugh”…
Does Walmart still allow this in the ny /nj region?
Tried near Lakewood once. They did not allow it. The woman was nasty about it too, accusing me of stealing the gift cards, which mind you I bought at Staples not Walmart. Which even if I did steal them, how would they have value on them to make a purchase!?
She probably meant that you stole them from someone, not that you took them off a rack of a store.
Can I use the gift card to pay the credit card balance for buying the card?
If you default, collection agencies who are eager to get paid often accept credit card payment. This is a really bad thing to plan on doing.
Is it 5 poinnts/dollar on all the Chase Ink cards or specifically the Chase Ink Cash?
i have chase ink business preferred and would love to know as well.
Ink Cash
Old Chase Biz Ink also which I kept
Both Ink cash and old biz plus
Can someone please explain how the Money Order thing works? is it free? how do we go about doing it?
Can this stack with 30% Staples Chase offer promo?
I would try it. Doesn’t say exclusions on offer page. Just remember its up to $19 back so it won’t actually get you 30%.
And there’s the risk it may not work!
Worked for me
last time i bought gcs from staples (online), they were duds, and I had to deal with them refunding me.
This is instore only anyway.
Were they Visa or Mastercard GCs? I’ve bought hundreds of Visas at Staples and never had a problem. I get 6-8 at a time at a few cooperative Staples store and avoid those that limit me. Aiming for 50 cards this week.
What type of Visa and Mastercard giftcards do you buy?
would it work for MasterCard
If I buy at 10ppd using Chase pay at ShopRite for 206.95 that yields 2069 points. If I buy at Staples using Ink for 200$ I yield 1000 points. The difference being 1000 points. I’ve spent $6.95 at ShopRite that’s deducts ~700 points. I’m still ahead 300 points at ShopRite.
Why shouldn’t I buy at ShopRite?
Do both. Note that ShopRite is capped at $400 of spending though.
Ah so at two gcards I’ve hit the limit. But I can change the credit card on the Chase pay and that will give me some more.
I also don’t think I did the math right that I’m ahead 300 points. I have to rethink that , especially now that you remind me the limit is 400$. On two cards I’ve gone $13.90 over that so I wouldn’t get 10ppd for that amount . Almost too much of a hassle for just one gift card.
On a side note I walked into a Staples today that absolutely refused to take credit cards for gift card purchases! They insisted cash only. Though the next Staples I went to had no problem selling me the $2000.00 in gcs.
Thanks Dan.
Multiple cards and patient cashier with a working chase pay app.
All 3 is rough to find but possible
A friend of mine had ALL of his Chase accounts, credit cards and checking, CLOSED after the last Staples/Office Max VISA promotion. The closure letters he received stated the accounts were closed due to the accounts not being used as intended. I also purchased cards as well but with no issues. As tempting as this is, I think I will let these deals cool off for a while.
Just passing this info along to the group.
Just curious. Was his Chase account closed because he purchased too many gift cards in general, purchased more than the daily limot on gift cards stores set in place to prevent money laundering, or did he manage to cash out his gift cards by buying money orders?
Hard to believe Chase would shut you down for using your card. I could believe Visa has some fraud alert going for the way the gift cards are ultimately used or even for amount of cash equivalent cards purchased in a day.
I went through hell last year as I used to get the $300 gift cards online. They were stolen and never reached me. $5000 worth were activated, yet they wouldn’t tell me where they were used andntried to say I was responsible. I fought this tooth and nail and even through corporate at Massachusetts. After several months it was resolved with a spreadsheet and I was told never to order in the mail or I would not be compensated again for the rampant theft. So now, when I’m not abroad, as I travel most of the year, I go to the staples store for the $200 cards.
I bought three Visa Vanilla debit cards and they won’t process as debits at the post office to buy money orders. Any advice on how to convert these into money orders or cash? Thanks in advance?
Vanilla cards don’t work for money orders
@sara, good advice- don’t buy what you can’t use , I use for day to day grocery I
That’s it
Don’t buy more than That
Post office doesn’t work years already
I also pay cell on line with this
Chase closed accounts – was it bc of deposit of money order in checking?
Did Amex give any issue for gc if it’s for offer, NOT to meet initial spend ?
Went to store today
He wanted photo I’d ti match cc

Question: I see on the Barclays Card they are offering 30% back on Staples. Would the Gift Card purchase qualify for this?
What gas stations allow you to buy MOs with visa debit cards on the East coast?
