Staples is waiving the $6.95 purchase fee on $200 Visa gift cards through 7/17 in-store only.

Use your Chase Ink Cash Card or Ink Plus card and get 5 points per dollar spent. Office supply stores never charge a fee for retailer gift cards such as Amazon and hundreds more, but these Visa gift cards can be used anywhere!

Buying these gift cards can help you meet the spend threshold to earn the highest ever 75,000 point signup bonus for Ink Cash on top of earning 5 points per dollar spent.

The IRS recently lost a case trying to tax a couple that bought millions of dollars in Visa gift cards, which they subsequently cashed out in order to earn 5% cash back. The court ruled that rebates for gift card purchases are not taxable.

The weekly ad states that there is a limit of 5 per customer per day, though the fee waiver should apply on up to 10 cards per transaction if your store isn’t a stickler for limits.

You can use the gift cards to buy money orders at select grocery stores and gas stations. Just use the last 4 digits of the card as the PIN number to cash them out.

Or you can donate the gift card to charity and get a receipt for the full face value while earning 5 points per dollar.

Or you can give away a gift card as a wedding or Bar Mitzvah gift.

Or you can always use it for everyday spending while earning 5% cash back or even better, 5 Chase Ultimate Rewards points per dollar everywhere!

Staples is slowly but surely dropping the gift card business and seemingly not replenishing their stock. A few weeks ago they had the same promotion without any stock in the Nanuet,NY store. Since they closed many stores recently, the next closest store is quite a drive plus tolls.

Strange, there are dozens of cards locally at the store closest to my office in LA suburbs. Picked up a few for Xmas gifts, and also to meet the SUB of delta plat amex

I actually raised the concern to the ‘store manager’ at this location. He claims there is no profit in it for him thus the out of stock is by design. Sad but these guys should take a page of BestBuy’s playbook in the Amazon era.

Does anyone know a place in LA to get money orders with these gift cards?

They’re issued by Meta Bank and so far I can’t find any place that will accept them as payment for a money order.

Any Staples location in NY or NJ that carry these and Amazon Gift cards?

North of I-78, roughly centered on I-80

Most northern NJ stores I’ve been to over the past few years have usually had both. The Visa/MC ones are less consistently in-stock, mostly for the most obvious-seeming reason. For one thing, they sometimes sell out later in the week of these offers, and I noticed that seemed to happen a bit more often in the first few months after they raised the limit from 1 to 5. The vast majority of the times I’ve gone on a Sunday or Monday, they’ve looked fully stocked. Even mid-week, they often look like there was a sale that week, but most of the time I’m pretty far from buying them out even if I go in a 2nd time. Inexplicably, particular stores do sometimes go a few months at a time without getting any, including on off weeks, then start having them again. The only time I recall Amazon gift cards being out of stock was the week before prime day, but it probably happened a few other times and didn’t make as much of an impression because the price wasn’t scheduled to change the following week.
