You can transfer increments of 1,000 Citi ThankYou Points into 1,150 Cathay Pacific Miles through 7/20.
Cathay Pacific miles no longer expire, as long you you earn or redeem 1 mile every 18 months.
Cathay Pacific has much better award availability on Cathay flights than they release to partners, which makes their miles valuable.
You can search for Cathay and some partner award flights here.
Fuel surcharges for British Airways flights are much cheaper than they are with other partners.
- For example, for a one-way business class flight from DC to London on 11/11:
- AA charges 57.5K miles+$733
- Alaska charges 55K miles+$995
- BA charges 80K Avios+$350
- Cathay charges 63K miles+$222
There’s also much better availability to book BA awards with Cathay miles than with other partner miles!
And if you want to fly in Cathay Pacific First Class, you’ll need Cathay miles.
Cathay Pacific first class features what I think is still the best seat and best bed in the sky on any airline. Service is also fantastic, as are the PJs and other amenities. Kosher meals from Asia are catered by London’s Hermolis, which makes by far the best kosher meals in the air. In JFK, you can order fresh Fresko kosher meals on demand at the Soho First Class lounge.
Transfers from AMEX or Citi to Cathay are typically instant, while transfers from Capital One to Cathay can take a day or 2. You can call or chat with Cathay Pacific to hold award space.
Will you transfer any Citi points to Cathay?

There’s like zero availability in business class from NYC to HKG over the next 6 months. Searched using Asia Miles, Alaska, BA, and Qatar.. How often does Cathay release award space?
