Hilton announced today that they will allow free cancellations on non-refundable hotel stays worldwide for travel through 4/30. Cancellations must be made 24 hours before scheduled arrival.
Additionally they announced that all bookings made between 3/12-4/30 for any future travel date will be refundable, even if the rate says non-refundable. That means you can rebook refundable hotel stays using the cheaper non-refundable rate and still be able to cancel for free should you need to!
Hilton also announced that they will not be expiring any points from today through 5/31 and that they will work on lowering the thresholds for elite status this year.
Kudos to Hilton for these changes!

IHG too, per an email I received yesterday
What about from bookings made via an OTA
You’ll need to reach out to the OTA, who will then reach out to the hotel. Shouldn’t be a problem but you have to go through whichever channel you used to book.
I just tried to cancel a reservation for this evening after my event got cancelled about an hour ago and was told I had to send in documentation showing it was cancelled and then they will review it.
This evening isn’t 24 hours notice. The message from Hilton was that all stays can be cancelled outside of the 24 hour window. This post wasn’t clear on that point.
I just canceled a non refundable
Can this be done online or do you have to call?
