American’s exit from Israel had its drama and its return has had its fair share as well.
American pulled out of the Tel Aviv market on 1/4/16 after they merged with USAirways. It was a curious move as USAirways had bragged about how successful the flight had been.
For years there were rumors of American wanting to fly to Israel again.
They finally announced in September 2019 that they would return to Israel starting in September 2020 with 3 weekly flights between Dallas and Tel Aviv. That schedule would miss the peak summer season, but would likely take advantage of planes that wouldn’t be needed as demand to Europe slowed seasonally.
Word got out that American picked Dallas as they would get a nice subsidy to launch service to a new city with at least 3 weekly flights for one year.
They started selling tickets in October and just a month after they started selling tickets they changed the flight to daily service.
But then a week later they backtracked and went back to 3 weekly flights.
That’s disappointing, but not surprising. Nobody knows when travel demand will pick up or when Israel will once again welcome foreigners to the holy land.
But I wish American would start service before next summer on the route so that they could get a quicker gauge on peak demand. Starting a route heading into the slow season is an odd strategy.
For now, American is still selling seats on the route, but presumably that will end soon when the flights are officially cancelled.
If you were booked from Dallas to Tel Aviv, you can cancel your flights for free or ask American to rebook you on a another airline, though you may need to wait until the flights are officially cancelled.

American was also briefly here after they took over the bankrupt TWA. Word was, they later pulled the plug on the US Airways route for fear of judgments against them because they left former TWA Israel employees without the compensations that they were due here.
I booked AA through my travel agent. flight was refunded however the agent fee which is half the ticket cost is only being offered to me in form of credit. Am i entitled to fight this?

Yup, had booked my child home for Sukkot, via DFW, for $657 RT. Since I can always get a refund and they might possibly agree to rebook him on a similar one-stop on BA or El AL, I guess I’ll just wait.
