Update, 11/28: Tonight is the final night to finish your Shop Small in November spending!

Update, 11/09: I completed all of my Shop Small In November purchases on my targeted cards on Friday. The charges posted early Sunday and the credits all posted last night!

DDF members are still reporting that targeting continues to expand. If you haven’t seen the offer in the past be sure to keep checking daily and keep trying the links below to see if your cards have been targeted yet.

Originally posted on 11/01:

Q: What is Shop Small In November and who is paying for it?
A: From 2010-2014 AMEX ran a promotion on the Saturday after Black Friday for free spending at small businesses. On 09/30/15 they announced that they would not be running that promotion in 2015.

However on 11/01/15 Shop Small In November offers began to appear on targeted AMEX accounts.

On personal accounts the offer is a $10 credit for spending $10 in one purchase at small businesses anytime between 11/01-11/28.

On business accounts the offer is a $20 credit for spending $100 in one purchase at small businesses anytime between 11/01-11/28.

The promotion is paid for by American Express and other corporate sponsors. Merchants get paid the full amount for purchases.

Q: How long does the refund take?
A: Officially the credits won’t post until 90 days from 11/28. Based on past experience though the credit posts within a few days from the time of purchase. Sometimes it falls in between the cracks and the refund can take up to the official timeframe.

Q: How do I tell if I’m targeted for this years offer.
A: Please read this post carefully for the full details on how to check if you are eligible for Shop Small In November.

Q: Is there any way to take advantage of the offer if I’m not targeted?
A: DDF reports indicate that cards opened recently don’t seem to be targeted for this offer.

-If you have any primary or secondary AMEX business cards that were not targeted for $20 off a $100 purchase at any small business from now through 11/28 you can try clicking on this link to register them.

-If you have any primary AMEX consumer cards that were not targeted for $10 off a $10 purchase at any small business from now through 11/28 you can try clicking on this link to register them.

For those links to work, the card will have to either be the only card on the login or be the default card shown at login. You can change which card is the default card by clicking on “My Cards” in the right sidebar after logging into the AMEX site and clicking on the star to the left of any card.

Or you can remove a card via this link to enroll the card under its own login.

Note that you must use the multi-tab method to enroll multiple cards in one login. If you’ve already enrolled cards in one login you’ll have to remove the previously enrolled card to enroll other cards in that login. Or you can remove the unenrolled cards and create a new login for them.

I have a login with several additional user business cards that didn’t have an offer for Shop Small In November.

However after clicking the business link above the offer showed up by the default card. I left that tab open without saving the offer and opened a new tab and changed the default card on the login. Then I clicked on the link again, logged in again, and the offer appeared by the new default card. I rinsed and repeated until I had a tab open for the offer on all of the cards on that login and then went quickly between the tabs and successfully saved the offer to all of the secondary business cards on that login.

Q: Why are none of my cards or only some of my cards targeted?
A: It’s impossible to know the exact reasons for which cards have been targeted, and reports are that more cards are still being added to the offer.

There have been a few reports of cards only having the offer in the old interface or in the new interface, though I can’t personally confirm that.

It’s possible that those people simply didn’t see the offer in the other interface or that the offer was added to their cards in the interim between checking the different interfaces.

Still it’s definitely a good idea to login and check under both interfaces.

On DDF there have been mixed reports of people being targeted on all, none, or some of their cards, so it’s hard to tell what the targeting is based on. One DDF user reports that he has accounts registered in different cities and all of his cards had it except for 3 cards registered in zip code 08701.

Q: How do I register all of my targeted accounts for this offer and what can I do if the offer disappears from a targeted card?
A: If you have multiple cards with the offer don’t rush to save the offer to your account!  Open up the Offers page for each card in a separate tab in the same browser and scroll down the the offer. Then go between the tabs to save the offer to each of your targeted cards. Otherwise once you save the offer to one card it disappears from your other cards.

Note that you only have to worry about an offer disappearing from other cards when they are registered to the same account.

Registering for an offer won’t affect cards that have their own login, there’s no need to open multiple tabs for accounts that aren’t registered with the same login..

If you have multiple cards in the same login and forget to register with multiple tabs you can make the offer appear again by removing the card that you didn’t save the offer to from that login and making a new login for that card

Q: Can I use primary and secondary cards from the same account?
A: You can check if they are targeted as well by adding secondary cards in your own name to your primary account or by making a new account login for a secondary card.

So far I’ve only seen reports of secondary users on business cards having the offer, so please post if a secondary user on your consumer card has the offer.

Q: Will registration fill up?
A: AMEX offers do fill up and the offer will disappear once it’s full, so it’s best to register before that happens.

Q: Can I make purchases online?
A: No.

Q: Do I need to swipe the card or can it be keyed in?
A: It can be keyed in or swiped.

Q: How do I know which businesses qualify?
A: The easiest way to know is if a business is on the small business map.

However just because a business isn’t on the map doesn’t mean it won’t work. As long as the business isn’t part of a major chain or processing mega sums of money it will still work. I’ve used it at stores not on the map in the past without issue, but realize there’s no guarantee.

Q: Will spending at businesses outside of the USA qualify?
A: No

Q: Are any small businesses officially excluded?
A: “Transactions with political campaigns or political action committees as well as purchases at gas or service stations do not qualify for the statement credit, regardless of whether they appear on the Shop Small Map.”

Q: Will charities qualify?
A: If they’re on the map, sure.
If they’re not on the map, they will probably work anyway, but there’s no guarantee.

Q: Will I get an immediate email confirmation after swiping my card?
A: Technically you should. If you do then you’re good to go.
However very often AMEX doesn’t send out a confirmation, so don’t sweat it if you don’t get a confirmation email.

Ari

If I have multiple cards with same login and some not targeted, should I wait to see if they will be targeted before adding the offers to the ones that are already targeted?

ddf'er

my question is should I rush to save it on my primary card so I’m sure I have it, or should I wait that maybe they will roll it out for the au’ and by saving it now I will ruin getting it on the au’?

AMEX is a fart

Not much consolation here, still mourning over sbs loss

Evan H.

thanks.. so much easier than having to run around all in one day.

Sam

I checked this morning and I didn’t see it. Just checked again and found it almost by the end of the offers list! Strange that Amex would put this offer so far down the list.

Dan

@Ari:
Maybe delete the non-targeted ones from that login and make a new login for them?

@ddf’er:
It shouldn’t affect the AU as long as its on another login.

@Sam:
Indeed.

Harv

I have six separate sign ins for 17 cards my family and I have and it was on none of them. bummer

High and Dry

I have not seen it on any of my extensive card collection. 🙁

ddf'er

thanks loads for updating, btw I think that as reported from alot of ddf’rs it has alot to do how old the card is, almost no one reporting with a card opened in 2015 should have it

Shira

I chatted with an AMEX representative, since i not received the offer. He said by next week i should receive the offer. It seemed like the offer will be available to everyone

Dan

@Shira:
Keep us posted!

Au

Diff login for au
Would need to open all login first ?
Will disappear if do one at a time?

sygdet

I have it on my 08701 Amex cards

Mo

@ Dan. U mentioned that cards opened recently are not eligible. Do you know what that time frame is. I have my card for a year now. Will I get the deal?

Achshell

Got only on one account, only one login. I LIVE IN LAKEWOOD NJ 08701😆

My08701

Got it on my personal and a AU personal in 08701

lyla

Dan,
Because this is not a tweetable offer does that mean that no cobranded amex cards like FIA or citi amex cards are eligible for this promo? Also did anyone get this offer on their serve or bb card?

Moe

What’s best practice when it comes to registering Amex card online accounts? I’m a bit courses. Every single card (each primary and each secondary) a separate login is best? Or are there certain deals that are better if they’re in the same account?

Marty

Would additional AU’s on an older account receive this offer?

Exchoosid

@My08701: poidh

Yingerman

@My08701:
Most people don’t believe you, give more details or post a screenshot…

It’s like an outlier…

Achshell

@Yingerman: I don’t care if you believe or not. Plus, a screenshot does not reveal the zip code.
It might be the guys like you that swiped 700 cards last year in 08701 that are not invited to the party this year! 😝

lyla

Only 2 cards had the offer (old blue card and spg personal) out of all my primary cards. Not one au card had the offer.

Yingerman

@Achshell:
Oh my goodness, that’s not the point, the point is about AU…

Who cares about the zip code?
AU makes a big difference!

Eliezer

I live in 08701 and I did receive the offer. However, Even though I had multiple windows/browsers open, the second I clicked on one offer, the offer disappeared from my other cards….:(

Lakewood card SPG

I had the offer on my SPG card registered to 08701 not costco card…
I wonder if the fact that costco dropped amex has anything to do with the offer not posting on their cards…

Dan

@Eliezer:
It’s multiple tabs.
I did in 1 tabs and it worked just fine.

You can either unregister the card than you registered and it should reappear for your other cards.
Or you can unregister the cards that you didn’t register and make new logins for them.

oh well

i live in 08701. got it on all primary cards (four personal and four biz). checked several AU’s opened a while ago (not 2015) but zilch 🙁

sruli b

hou do I change my login

Anonymous

i got this offer on all my amex business cards. do i haveto spend $100 on each card to get the offer?? please someone help me im very behind in these things. thnaks

cholent

I can confirm that I checked the same card at the same time in both old and new formats, the offer was available in the new format but not the old for me. I went back and double checked, still wasn’t available in the old format.

Exchoosid

@My08701: update??????
Proof!!!!!!

Anonymous

@Dan: can you please clarify what if it’s best to have separate login for every single Amex card?

My08701

I am not sure what proof you are asking for, screenshot won’t help you determine what your questioning. It’s there on the AU in 08701. I also got on a business Costco card. I used it yesterday and immediately got the email from AMEX about using the $20 offer..

Dan

@My08701:
You’re the only one to report getting the $10 off $10 personal offer on an AU.

my08701

my apologies, you are correct, I logged in from my desktop, the $10 off $10 was not an AU. my phone had the previous login, sorry about that.

Yingerman

@Achshell:
Now you can see that i’m not a disbeliever, it was just out of the story line…

A

Only available for me in the old format I checked both

Anonymous

Max of 4 cards for Amex personal so the most is $40 credit hardly worth it this year

DL

Had one on main holder for delta amex. non for AU. Will they still be posted? any chance?

sury

this is just for the primary card? additional users get nothing?

a

@A: that was when i was on the site from a mobile but from a desktop it was also by the new format

Ariel

Is this only a one time use? or any 10+ purchase over the next 4 weeks will qualify?

A

@Ariel: Quick question: did you read the post?
LOL;D ;D ;D

W311

dan. how can i remove my card from my account?

bl

im confused, didnt amex state there would be no credits this year, did something change? all recent articles state no credits this year

chaptchik

@W311: go to card services than go to card management u will see the option

cindy

used my registered business card for $100 purchase in NPGS Lakewood (in the Jackson branch) and did not receive a thank you email and the offer is still showing available for that card. Is there any way to get it applied? Anyone else have success in NPGS?

Dan

@cindy:
Give it a week.

sarah

If I am eligible, is it one swipe per card that is paid back or each time i swipe 10 dollars at an eligible store it is paid back?

Deal Guy

You mentioned that targeting continues to expand.
Is that true for people who got their card in 2015 as well, or are those cards being excluded.

Also, i saved the offer on my 2 personal cards opened prior to 2015,but my spg business card opened in 2015 did not have a offer. Will the fact that i saved it already on my 2 personal, keep them from adding it to my business card, or is it not a issue, since the business card is not identical to the personal offer?
Thanks

G

This is so confusing! I probably am one of the very few pinheads that read everything to try to figure it out and I still can’t get s handle on it. One thing says no more Small Bus Sat, the next is go go go. Then I heard a speaker who ran his card on his friend’s square all day and I don’t get if he ran it for $1 and get ten back. I’m in the “game” but certain specific things are just too confusing. I’m sure I’ll be ripped apart, it’s ok.

Yitz

@ Cindy: I noticed NPGS isn’t on the small business map. I think it was last year. I used one card there and one at a store on the map and only the one on the map got a confirmation e-mail and credit.

debbie

I dont see any option for amex offers for an additional user (this is under the primary’s log in). do you see the offers for an additional user only when they have their own log in?

Love dans

charged on 2 personal cards that had registered the $10 offer
used them at a place on the map on 11/3 and 11/4 still no credit or email… strange right??

knocker

Gotem on all my 100+ business cards. The bulk of them were swiped at KRM in Boro park but to no avail:( I didn’t get an email nor did the credit post. Each and every other store I swiped in I immediately got the email and credit already posted. Oiy bashefer!

chana k

Thanks for the link to remove a card from a login. The card that I moved to its own login now has the offer!

SB

On both my cars I have something that says small business saturday- Nov. 28th, it does not let me add to card, just click to “learn more”- ??

Zvi

If I sign up for the offer will it apply the rebate to previous transactions from November, or only transactions done after the offer was accepted?

Dan

@Zvi:
Only transactions after registering.

Eliyohu S Geller

If I apply the Small Business offer to my Credit Card does it apply also to all my additional cardholders as well, or do I have to add the offer to each cardholder individually?

Eli

If I apply the Small Business offer to my credit card does it apply to the additional cardholders as well or do I have add it each additional cardholder individually?

Dovid

Has anyone clicked on the Learn More tab? What does it tell you? Do you lose any chance of getting the offer on that card?

stupid question

so this year is different from the past? if
i use my targeted card in any small business today i will get the credit?

Golda

I chatted with them- and the guy told me there’s no such offer! 🙁

Anonymous

Just registered 2 cards business gold and blue sky for family member offer nowhere to be found

Anonymous

i am confused
is this a ONE TIME credit of $10 or does this apply every time you use your card

anonymous

i looked in my zip code and the two stores that came up, from what i know, DO NOT accept AMEX?
i think it means they want us to go in there and say ‘you don’t take amex????, horrors”””

ymmv

ymmv with everything buddy!

Yopan

Do I need to register my card for this offer

Yaakov

I had the offer for the past 2 weeks and now it’s gone. Did they close registration

Deal Lover

Does anyone know if B&H Photo is considered a small business?

Luckyluck

FYI i got the SBS credit for swiping on Amazon Register.
