In normal times, a coach ticket to Brazil costs over $1,100 and a business class ticket costs over $5,000.
United has fares from Delta hubs to Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paulo from just $1,100 round-trip in business class. A Saturday night stay is required.
You can book an open jaw to fly into Rio and fly back out of Sao Paulo.
Flights connect in Houston, where United’s outstanding Polaris lounge will be reopening within the next month or so.
This P Class fare will earn 150% of the flown miles when credited to Air Canada. That means you’ll earn more than 17,000 miles for booking this trip.
Rio is one of my favorite cities in the world, with lush mountains overlooking beautiful beaches. Best of all, you no longer need a visa to visit Brazil!
You can read my Rio trip report, including running off a mountain, here.
See the Brazil Master Thread on DDF for more information. While you’re down there you may want to take a side trip to view the bustling Jewish community of Sao Paulo, the remote city of Manaus in the Amazon rainforest (with a Chabad House of course :D), or the absolutely stunning Iguaçu Falls. When we went to Iguaçu we needed to pay for Argentine and Brazilian Visas, but now both countries have no visas required for Americans!
The islands of Fernando de Noronha and Florianopolis are also spectacular.
You can fly intra-Brazil using Delta miles on LATAM, American miles on GOL, or United miles on Azul.

Not quite as good as the last $412 round trip JFK – GRU in Delta One. Man I miss COVID times lol
Anything from NYC?
Always thought that Brazil wasn’t safe for US tourists!
Are there any quarantine or covid restrictions right now?
Just a PCR within 72 hours or antigen within 24 hours. Kids are exempt.
Do I need to be vaccinated to go from USA?
No.
Re: Iguazu – Argentina border is closed so someone making the day trip there may wanna reconsider that portion.
Dan, I wanna take the family to Israel and make a stop in Dubai using chase ultimate rewards points. I checked Priceline and they show an Emirates itinerary for $688, but chase ultimate rewards travel site doesn’t show the Emirates itinerary. Any ideas on a workaround?
