On September 10th DDF (DansDeals Forums) Member alacron started a thread offering $40 for a Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card code for a Taylor Swift Eras Tour ticket access code.
The Venture X card is already a feature-loaded card that is incredible for earning points, benefits, and incredible MLB ticket deals. But Taylor Swift ticket codes? Who knew?
This led to a discussion of what exactly the code was good for, and got DDF members to search their inbox for this targeted email:
Dan, his wife Mimi, and I weren’t targeted for this email, but my wife Basha was. Pro tip: Be sure to opt into Capital One marketing emails!
The code was not a guarantee to be able to purchase tickets, but rather a chance to get your Ticketmaster account verified to be able to enter the queue once ticket sales went live. Some Capital One members in the queue would be able to purchase tickets.
Offers for a verified fan code went up from $40 to $150 and up to $1,000.
I decided to roll the dice and see if I could score some tickets without selling my code.
There was no official go-live time for the sale, you just had to keep an eye out for an SMS that sales were live.
Sure enough on September 13th at 1:23pm, DDF Member Essen est zich shared that he just purchased 2 tickets.
I got the text 21 minutes later:
I ran to open the site, and booked two seats for the October 20th concert as quickly as I could.
About an hour later I had a thought, what if I went back to the checkout page and tried to purchase more tickets?
It worked!
There were only single seats left, but I managed to grab 2 more tickets for last night’s concert.
Next, I created a StubHub listing for all 4 tickets. I looked at the cheapest price for each section and created a listing for $100 below that. I wasn’t looking to make the most money possible, I just wanted to make sure that they sold!
- The breakdown was:
- 4 tickets total cost: $2,460.50
- After StubHub fees, I was paid: $8,990.20
- Total profit: $6,529.70
So there you have it, thanks to our already incredible VentureX credit card, I made an extra $6,529.70 profit. Now that the concert is over, the payment from Stubhub is being processed.
Some lessons I learned are:
- Follow DDF! There are endless tips there that don’t make it to the main site. You can open an account there free of charge.
- When someone offers $40 or $1,000 for something, you can probably make more selling it yourself, if you’re willing to do a little more work and take on some risk.

Was wondering why you hadnât posted about this!! I made a little over 6k also! Venture one is in a class of its own. My experience was different. I got a guaranteed spot to buy tickets and was told a couple days ahead of time exactly when they would go on sale

How long did it take you on Ticketmasterâs site to purchase the tickets? Sometimes you can wait for hours.
Going to make 3k on 2 tickets for New Orleans show. Also went straight to StubHub to sell. Didn’t think to go back to try for more tickets! Been hearing that ticket prices on secondary market have been dropping a bit a couple of weeks after the September Capital One drop.
You left out taxes. You’ll be hit with a 1099 for an amount that high

Even if it were on Chol hamoed, are you sure that applies to resale as opposed to income from work?
Thatâs awesome! DDF FTW! Next time try Lysted, it automatically lists your tickets on all the exchanges and then takes them down and transfers the ticket when it sells on one. They also have preferred exchange fees so itâs usually the same or cheaper than selling it directly with StubHub or Seatgeek.

Apparently, the bank is good for for entertainment promos. My experience w the bank and the venture x was pretty pathetic. As a long hysa holder, they tricked all their customers and suddenly stopped raising their interest rates – they made a similar name account with the hysa. you couldnât even change the account you had to open a new account! They approved me for the cc right away but before I even received the card, my account, like others went under financial review! They pulled restaurant benefits mid af. Took forever gave themselves 2 months after closing date w the vacation rental credits – had to be done manually even then. They over credited peoples accounts than clawed it back⌠not a competent bank..I guess great for entertainment promos though.
One of my best deals I found thru DDF! My profit was $4200 on 2 tickets. The only better deal I can think of was the End of World War II 75th Anniversary American Eagle Gold Proof Coin!

I never look at promotional emails this one randomly caught my eye and I was able to make 7,000$ profit.
I didnât think I was going to be able to get the tickets but I was able to get at the stage fifth row so I called my friend who deals with concert tickets he said the trick is to sell it immediately after it drops and just look at the market price in your section and drop it by 100$ and sure enough it sold in minutes.
Also no Iâm seeing I get emails from Taylor swift nation because I purchased tickets. Last night I got a email that they are selling a Taylor swift midnight edition limited edition sweater does that have any resell value?

Me too. Wasn’t meant to be. I’m still vague in the process of reselling these tickets; aren’t they linked to your name; do you not have to input your info when purchasing? also, they were able to be resold on the spot, or only after they were sold out?

Same as any event ticket. You buy it in your name, list it for sale, and transfer it to the buyer.
First thanks Dan for all your work, Iâve been following you already for a moment and I always knew that I am alerted of all the deals and tricks there are, but here you surprised me, I am also a Venter X card owner and I now checked my emails and I saw that I also got that âVenture X access to Taylor Swift | The Eras Tourâ email but I ignored itâŚ, why have you not posted it then? now itâs already over and there is nothing I can do, I feel really frustrated about it as itâs just a waste of Yiddish money
It’s tough deciding what deals to share on DDMS and what deals to leave on DDF.
For this deal, there was no way to know how targeted the email was.
No way to know what quantity was available.
It’s possible if we shared it on DDMS all tickets would have gone to bots as have happaned with other limited deals.
Very often we get angry comments specifically for taking a deal and sharing it, just on this post we got angry comments in both directions.
Imagine what happens if we did share it and people LOST money? There was risk to this deal as well.
But once I saw that it actually did work and there are ways to help others possibly get deals like this in the future I decided to share it now.
At the time I even told Dan “prob 0% chance of getting a ticket” happy admit I was very wrong and if this happens again, we’ll be sure to share it on the main site.
This reminds me of the Prime Day sweepstakes where DDF members won thousands of dollars in free Amazon Gift Cards. Who knew sweepstakes could have such good odds and actually send out prizes?
You win some you lose some. Bottom line DDF has MANY deals that never make it to DDMS. And that is by design.
Speaking of design, maybe you can invest some if that $6K and update DDF to look like something from the 21st century?

Maybe those who deliberately reduce supply to drive up prices for the desperate, but this is a situation where DDF’ers are undercutting a well established secondary market.
@jj i would make it very clear in the post (not just leave this comment ) that the Taylor Swift Tour was a once in a many years opportunity to flip tickets for this kind of profit. young men should be carful not to think this is the case for every concert out there and end up stuck with tickets and in financial trouble.

This was something that could have been positively impactful to a significant number of people. Hindsight is the best sight for you on this one, Dan. When in doubt, please make the extra effort to post on this site.
Not sure what wasn’t clear. I don’t write about everything and certainly not things that I wasn’t targeted for and have zero experience with.
Otherwise people would risk based on a post that I couldn’t stand behind. I generally only write about things I’m 100% sure about and can write about on a high level on topics that I’m familiar with. To the extent that when I was uncomfortable accepting an ad for PFS coins when they started out that we required a 6 figure collateral so that none of our readers would be harmed if things didn’t work out.
If you want to take on risk with things that aren’t in my wheelhouse, join DDF. There are always opportunities that come up that won’t be covered here for a variety of reasons. And as you post there, you may even unlock further levels…
