Update 2: Google has killed the gift card offer early, at 10:05pm EST. Congrats to everyone who got this amazing deal!
Update: This offer ends tonight! Google Fi chat reps confirmed that this will work if you port in any Google Voice number that is older than 8/28 and that this will work regardless of whether you finance the phone or pay for it outright.
Google’s Project Fi cell phone service is now called Google Fi. Read more about how it works below.
If you signup with my referral link you will get a bonus $20 Google Fi statement credit.
As part of the relaunch, you can now bring your own phone to the service, including most Android and iPhones! Previously you had to use a specific Google Fi phone.
Option 1: Bring your own device and get $200 credit.
Check here to see if your current device will work on Google Fi. If your phone is not listed it still may work, but it has not yet been tested.
- If you signup today by 11:59pm PST and use your own device you’ll also get a $200 statement credit!
- Terms: To qualify for the service credit, activation must be for full service (i.e., activation does not apply to a data-only SIM). Afterwards, a service credit will be applied to the purchaser’s Fi account. Customer will receive an email notifying them of the service credit after all terms and conditions have been satisfied, and the credit will be applied to the customer’s subsequent bills around 45 – 60 days after activation. If the account is paused, credits will only appear once the account is reactivated. Service credits will be applied only toward monthly service costs such as data, calls, texts, and device protection; they cannot be applied device purchase or financing.
- New Google Fi users must transfer (port-in) their current personal number over to Google Fi during sign up. The number being transferred must be currently active and have been active with the previous carrier and the user since 8/28/18 12:00 AM PT.
- Limit one per person. This offer is only available for U.S. residents ages 18 and older, and requires Google Payments and Google Fi accounts.
It’s worth noting that Google Fi’s phones are specifically designed to take advantage of Sprint, T-Mobile, and US Cellular towers, so buying their phones may result in better coverage.
Option 2: Buy a new phone and get gift cards!
The great news is that if you buy a phone from Google Fi as a new or existing customer today by 11:59pm PST you’ll get gift cards equal to the price paid! You can choose from gift cards for Delta, Southwest, Airbnb, or Hotels.com.
- If you buy an unlocked:
- Moto G6 for $199 (32GB) you’ll get $199 of gift cards
- Moto X4 for $249 (32GB) or $299 (64GB) you’ll get $249 or $299 of gift cards
- LG G7 ThinQ for $549 (64GB) you’ll get $549 of gift cards
- LG V35 ThinQ for $699 (64GB) you’ll get $699 of gift cards
- Pixel 2 XL for $749 (64GB) or $849 (128GB) you’ll get $749 or $849 of gift cards
- Pixel 3 for $799 (64GB) or $899 (128GB) you’ll get $799 or $899 of gift cards
- Pixel 3 XL for $899 (64GB) or $999 (128GB) you’ll get $899 or $999 of gift cards
- Gift card promo terms:
- To qualify for this promotion, a device must be activated within 15 days of device shipment and remain active for 60 consecutive days within 75 days of device shipment. The device must be activated within the same group plan that was used to purchase the device. Activation must be for full service (i.e., activation does not apply to a data-only SIM).
- This offer is available for new Google Fi customers as of 11/28/18 12:00 AM PT and existing, active Google Fi customers. If the customer is new to Google Fi, the customer must transfer (port-in) their current personal number over to Google Fi during sign up. The number being transferred must be currently active and have been active with the previous carrier and the customer since 8/28/18 12:00 AM PT.
- After the terms have been satisfied, the customer will receive an email from Google Fi (around 75 – 90 days after device activation) with instructions on how to obtain a gift card from Tango subject to Tango’s terms and conditions. The user can redeem gift card amounts with select travel partners: Airbnb, Delta Air Lines, Hotels.com, and Southwest Airlines. Gift cards may also be subject to the terms of the travel partners.
- If Fi service is paused for more than 7 days or cancelled within 120 days of activation, the value of the gift card will be charged to your Google Payments account to match the purchased price of the device. Limit one per person. This offer is only available for U.S. residents ages 18 and older, and requires Google Payments and Google Fi accounts. Unless otherwise stated, this offer cannot be combined with other offers. Offer and gift card redemption are not transferable, and are not valid for cash or cash equivalent. Void where prohibited.
Google Fi plans:
Unlimited calls and texts are $20/month and data is $10/GB with a max charge of $60 of data. If you use 0.5GB you’ll pay $5 for data that month as all data is prorated. Additional users with unlimited calls and texts are just $15/month.
Many people use Google Fi domestically, though I’m on a grandfathered shared Verizon plan with unlimited everything for $30/month, so it’s not compelling for me to use in the USA.
However I use Google Fi extensively when traveling abroad. 4G LTE data is the same $10 per GB everywhere in over 135 countries. That’s a bargain for true high-speed data. Plus you only pay for what you use, so if you use 1.1GB you’ll pay $11, not $20. You can make phone calls for 20 cents/minute or you can make phone calls to the US/Canada over the data network with Google Voice with no charge per minute. The line itself effectively costs just 67 cents per day and you can pause your plan and number as needed. I’ve used it in places from Israel to Svalbard to the UAE. You can view supported countries here.
While other carriers offer data plans that work abroad, they typically offer slow data speeds and have extremely stingy caps on how much high speed data you can use per day.
You can use your Google Fi phone as a hotspot and you can even get a free data only SIM for other devices to use at the same low rate per GB anywhere in the world.
When I’m not traveling I just pause my service and don’t pay a thing. Note that if you do the gift card promotion, you can’t pause service within 120 days of activation. Service for 4 months costs $80, but pausing service in that initial time period will cost you $199-$999 depending on which phone you buy as the gift cards will be charged back to your account. After 120 days from activation you can pause service as needed and you won’t be charged anything while service is paused.
In other words you can get a Pixel 3 XL 128GB phone for $999 and get back $999 in gift cards. You need to keep the service for 4 months which will cost a minimum of $80, but you’ll also get a $20 credit for using my referral link.
In total you’ll pay $1,059 (plus tax) for the $999 phone, $999 in gift cards, and 4 months of unlimited talk+text plan. After 4 months you are free to keep the service if you love it or switch to another carrier.
Google Fi’s phones are unlocked and can be used on any carrier.
Will you switch to Google Fi with today’s promo?

The $20 talk and text comes with 0 Data?
Correct. You pay for whatever data you use.
0.1GB=$1
0.5GB=$5
1GB=$10
3GB=$30
20GB=$60 max per month data charge.
done and i used your code. thanks
That means you can’t use more then 20/GB a month ? Or its unlimited with a $60 charge
Unlimited with $60
Unlimited for $60.
Just to clarify what you said; I’ts not 20GB for $60,
I’ts 6GB for $60 then its free, unlimited
Please make mention that after 15GB it’s slowed
Why would anyone sign up for it with those terms. If they up the gift card times 10 then maybe would be worth it
What’s wrong with the terms?
You want Google to offer you a gift card of $9,000 to buy a phone? Yea, I think we would all say that was worth it….
the headache just to get this going isn’t worth the incentives offered especially with fantastic plans from the top brands
I am going to assume you’re just a troll BUT if you are not then lord almighty you are one seriously messed up individual
Can you switch the sim to an IPhone in future?
Sure, you just need to have the new device active for 60 days.
Are we sure about this? What does “Device activated” mean to Google? Does it really get “deactivated” if you put in a SIM from a different carrier while maintaining a Fi service plan? (In the past it didn’t, that’s how I used a SIM from a returned Nexus 5X in my iPhone for years…)
these might be ESIM so no actual cards
Was anyone able to confirm this? I actually wanted to swap back my old SIM card but not sure if this will trigger “Device deactivated” and break the $200 promotion.
I just ordered the pixel 3 on black friday though the google store . anyone know if that would work…..
No, you need to get it today.
If you bought a new device from Fi during the Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale, Fi recommends you “reach out to support today and ask if you can get price protection.”
Do you loose number if transferring from another carrier?
Why would you lose it? You can use it on Google Fi or you can port it out in the future.
So it’s basicaly a free phone (gc)
And first few months are covered by the $200 credit.
Free phone that can be used just for traveling and paid as you go?
You can get the $200 offer for using your own device or the gift card offer.
Either is stackable with the $20 referral credit.
Can I do both? Open 2 lines, one with a new device and one BYOD.
Want to know this as well
Use two different Google Accounts to signup, then yes.
Can I sell the pixel3 after the minimum term? That’s would be worth doing it even if I don’t use the phone at all
Is Fi compatible with iphones?
As of today, yes!
Can you apply the fi credit towards the plan amount?
Of course.
Let me see if I fully get this:
I can get a new phone, like a Pixel 3 for a thousand bucks, pay 4 months of service for $80 and then pause my service, and Google will still give me a thousand bucks in gift cards?
So essentially a thousand dollar phone for less than $100? (Assuming that Delta gift cards have value to me, etc.)
This is what I tried to articulate, thanks for saying it in better words.
Just purchased. You did not calculate the tax. The total was $1,087 with tax.
If I sign up and cancel in 6 months I get to keep the phone and gift card ?
Sure.
“If I sign up and cancel in “4” months I get to keep the phone and gift card ?”
FTFY
I bought it on Sunday and didn’t receive it yet, do I have a chance to get this offer?
Dan why don’t you use it for usa calls? What is project fi? Any spyware? Cost of local calls in israel ? Otherwise use 2 phones one for data one for domestic calls in israel? They don’t use Verizon in the US? Only sprint T-Mobile ?
Would love the offer of last week
$400 for pixel 3 w 200 credit on calls
Redeeming gift cards has so many things that can go wrong
I can testify of a third party who stole my delta card
Delta suggest court
Too pricy to fight the 3p promitipn company
Anyone want to do it pro bono ?
Their plan is a bit expensive for US use. Seems a little bit of a hassle if you’re trying to setup a line to use it as a hotspot without porting. I wonder how long you can ‘pause’ the account?
Same question!
You can pause as often as you want for 90 days each time.
On the phone they told me it can only be paused for 180 total days in a year. You can pause and restart as often as you want, but it can only be paused for 180 days in a year.
That’s incorrect.
Just Tried to pause again and it failed Fi support told me I because I already paused 180 days ! Claims T&C have never changed

would they count a google voice number as porting in a personal number?
Yes! I just did it!
Are you sure you got the promo?
Im not so sure that works?
Seemingly it does!
https://support.google.com/fi/thread/643144?hl=en
https://support.google.com/fi/thread/644878?hl=en
Are the phones bought from Google FI unlocked and usable Verizon service?
Yes.
Sounds like only 60 if u use Dan’s referral link
Correct.
Does the $15 additional user share the data? Is it capped at $60 for the whole plan?
I get an Error 500 when trying to sign up. Tried a few browsers and it’s not working.
Yup, looks like we took Google down.
Maybe Tesla you can take down but I doubt this post took Google down. It’s makinf headlines all across tech logs all day
Works well in Israel? Effectively this is still costing me $80, say Im getting the Lg phone for $549, minus $200 promo, knocking down price to $349 plus $80, total $429. Then wait for GC worth $549, and resell @ appr. 75% profit, about $400 profit, so phone is costing me about $30… Did i do the math right?
You can’t get the phone gift cards AND the $200 promo credit. One or the other.
Can I port in a Google Voice phone number?
Can I bring my own phone and port in a Google Voice Number?
Will a fi Pixel work on Verizon?
“Unfortunately, sign up for Google Fi is currently not available. Please try again later.”
Maybe mention that it’s not advisable to resell the phone 🙂
Lol, at least not in bulk while shipping to states without sales tax.
Can you explain why it wouldn’t be advisable to resell the phone. That was my plan…
I said, in bulk.
What if I am not a new user nor an active user?
I cancelled my Fi service 3 weeks ago so I could take advantage of Sprint’s BYOD free for a year plan.
Is there some way I can sign up for this without porting back my current number, i.e. porting a Google voice number?
I feel like it’s worth it to sign up for 60 days just for the free phone.
Does it work when paying the phone in 24 installments?
Sure.
For a family plan unlimited data would be $80 a month plus $15 for each added line? If I bring my own phones do I get $200 for each one or only the primary account holder?
Same question here. It seems that unlimited data would be $100 a month (pay for 10gb with family plan, not 6), plus $20 for first line, and $15 for each additional line?
Does each person joining the family plan qualify for the $200 bill credit? How about the travel GCs if they buy the phones?
Website is down
Dan did it again
Dan did it again. How many sites do you try and crash a month? You gotta get pleasure out of it at this point.
LOL
“Google and Tesla hate him!”
Sorry if this is repetative but i want to make sure i get it
i buy the 3xl today for $1000
i activate it when i get it and leave it active for 60 days
after 60 days i sell the 3XL for lets say 900
and i still get a 1000 gift card to AirBNB if i want?
Leave it active for 120 days.
And there’s no way you’re selling that for $900. Try $500.
Is the $200 credit only one per account? Or would I get a separate $200 credit for each new line, even on a single account?
My Verizon pixel phone work with Google fi?
Sign up is temporarily unavailable
Unfortunately, sign up for Google Fi is currently not available. Please try again later.
I think they took down the $200 billing credit promo. It seems only applying to the bring your own device promo.
Is the $200 credit only if I bring my own phone? Or can I get the $200 and the gift cards for buying a new phone?
Only for your own phone. You cannot get both
yes the phones are fully unlocked if you buy it from them!!
I don’t travel often. I would like to make my money back.
Anyone know of a place where I can sell the gift cards?
CardCash.com among others.
Thanks
They don’t buy Delta’s GCs.
Will you still get travel credit if you set up monthly payments? Or do you have to pay for it all up front?
“This offer cannot be combined with the $200 Fi credit offer on the fi.google.com site for users who “Bring your own device.” Offer and gift card redemption are not transferable, and are not valid for cash or cash equivalent. Void where prohibited.”
Doesn’t this mean that you can’t get the $200 credit and the gift cards? You would need to choose one or the other.
What is the resale value of these gift cards?
I would buy hotels.com GC at 20% off if someone is interested
Is anyone having success or evrybody getting the same error?
What kind of gift card do the give u ?
I want to take advantage of this. Any idea about the OnePlus One as it is not listed there? Or just head for a newer phone and get the gift cards?
It is listed there.
One plus 3 is listed…not One Plus One…had the same q. It still might work…they only listed what was tested.
I didn’t take the risk, only the 3 was there. Just went with a new pixel 3. Thanks!
I need a second phone just for data use and not calling. How much will I pay per month $10? Are there any other alternative plans for just data and no text/talk?.
HOT! You can transfer your Google Voice Number to port in a new line!!!
was this verified by the customer rep? I am currently in queue to ask this question.
Please report back
Please confirm what the rep says. And that porting in a google voice number will still qualify for the gift card promo.
I didn’t go through a customer rep, I just checked out with using the Google Voice number. my checkout page showed the Dan $20 promo and the Travel gift card promo. Now in my Google Fi Account page it says “Your number is ready to be transferred from Google Voice. You can complete the transfer on your phone.”
im not sure this qualifies
Confirmed! Porting a google voice number will qualify with some conditions. “Yes! You will be eligible, however The number being transferred must be currently active and have been active with the previous carrier ( Google voice ) and you since 8/28/18 12:00 AM PT. “
Great to hear, was that message sent via chat or an email?
Please report back if you get an answer
Dan can you please explain in the beginning of the post what Google fi bachlol is ? I’m new to this and would prefer if you can add to explain in short what it is then continue to read the details .
Thanks !
Is there a way to use the phone with another carrier (without waiting 4 months) without jeopardizing the gift card?
Probably not
AMAZING. Got the Pixel 3 and used your referral code (for some reason had to reenter it at checkout). Says I will get the travel cards! THANKS!
Can I port in a google voice number?
Does text messages work on Iphone 7 since it shows on their site that its only compatible with imessage and not texts to other iphones?
https://fi.google.com/compatibility#results
Can you port a prepaid line?
People say you can port a Google voice line but who says will meet the terms?
Yes and yes.
Is there an expiration date for hotels.com or Airbnb gift card?
No.
Just a heads up, I bought the pixel 3 on black friday with the $200 off plus $200 google fi credit. Chatted with google to try my luck and lo and behold! $399 more credit to (halfway) match todays deal!
Nice!
Actually bought 2 pixel 3’s then so I have now $400 project FI credit from friday, plus $798 from today!
How did you get $399 more credit ?
interesting. The only option they gave me on the phone was to return the one I bought on black friday and buy one today to get today’s deal.
Thanks Dan for an awesome deal! Any idea what Tango’s terms & conditions are? Specifically, expiration? Are they the same as, say, Delta’s gift cards (which I think never expire)? Thanks!
I’m also curious. Looks like they don’t expire (which is great for Delta for example). https://www.tangocard.com/terms-of-service/
The gift cards don’t expire.
Are these phones tied to my account or can I sell them?
Option 2 doesn’t need to port an existing number, right?
The post, under Option 2, says “If the customer is new to Google Fi, the customer must transfer (port-in) their current personal number over to Google Fi during sign up.”
will I be able to use the phone with Verizon?
Yes.
Can I port a landline???
im getting an error – it keeps wanting to port my google number over even though i check the box to port another number (or even get a new number)..
anyone else?
Will I need a second device if I only want to use this for international travel and pause while in the US?
Just swap out the SIM card.
This is a game changing offer. I am sure it is probably making John Legere pretty upset as he is supposed to be the #UNCARRIER. I sure hope Google Fi has a long contract.
Are these the standard versions of these phones or special Google Fi versions? Would they work well on T-mobile?
Standard.
Yes.
Is it possible to open a completely new line (i.e., not ported) to use Project Fi? I can’t seem to find this info on their site. If so, world that preclude me from taking advantage of this deal?
You need an existing number.
My GV # seemed to do the trick. Hopefully the fact that I put it as monthly payments won’t mess me up with AMEX protection.
If I want to get this deal for my kid and they don’t have a number to port over am I out of luck for both options? Seems like number porting is required for both…
Have a Google Voice number?
Yes, she has a GV number. It sounds like you can port a GV number, I am just worried that using this number will void the promo.
Just read the update at the top. If a screenshot of the chat could be posted, that would be helpful down the road. Thanks!
I have one, but I’d suggest you chat yourself if you want a record of it.
Can you share? They have shut down the Chat for the night due to high volume. Call wait times are at 3 hours.
Is there a limit to how many phones you can port in? I have my phone and my wife phone if I put it on the same plan it’s 5 cheaper and free after 10 gigs not 12?
Anyone know what dumb phone would work with this service?
I need to get my child a phone to use at school to call us for a ride, but the school will only let a non-smartphone?
Please advise.
None.
I don’t know but you can check fi.google.com/compatibility
Google Fi’s phones are unlocked and can be used on any carrier.” including sprints?
dan is your number the same number on verizon as on google fi when your abroad or do you have 2 different numbers one when your in the states and anotehr when your abroad?
2 numbers. You can do call forwarding.
Is it one per account or one per person? so if i port in my account and my wife’s will i get 2 gift cards?
Sorry if I’m being dense but where/how do we generate our own referral code?
Google Fi extensively when traveling abroad, what’s the band for fastest LTE date network in isreal? So I can know what phone to buy…
What happens if someone calls your number when the phone is on pause? Can it go to voicemail?
Dan, can you explain how you use this & your current number?
2 phones. Or swap the SIM with the same phone.
Hmm. So basically, you don’t pay for anything for Fi as long as you’re in the US. When you travel overseas, you activate Fi, and only pay for that time. Do I have that right?
Is anyone confirm with a rep about porting Google voice number?
If I put in a old google voice number (that I haven’t used in years and now when I call the number nothing happens) during checkout will I get the gift cards or will google check to make sure its a valid number?
Should work, YMMV.
Does this work for a second line on Google Fi also, or do I have to make 2 individual accounts
Joined- Thanks Dan
Now that you have thousands of $ in Google Fi credits. Can you sell them to us?
Ill make you a good offer;)
Alas it’s capped, so I won’t have that much.
Combs Line ?
can i buy a phone on ebay from google fi in order to get the gc or i need to buy it brand new directly from the google fi store?
From Google Fi.
My only question is: why isn’t this post labeled as SMOKING HOT! HURRY!
After all, it’s essentially a free few hundred dollars in gift cards, no?
No. Its a phone that you are getting at a very good rate
You lay out $xxxx and receive equal value in gift cards. Assuming you plan on selling the gift card at 70-80% of its value, that does not give you a wash. The difference is essentially what you are paying for the phone.
Right, but then you can also sell the phone for 70-80% of cost. For the Pixel 3XL, that $7-800.
PSA There will be an abundance of good deals on gift cards come March 2019
LOL.
Don’t forget, a ton of Pixel XL 3’s on eBay.
Which Credit Card would you recommend using to buy the phone?
Any card with extended warranty coverage.
What about an Amex using the $100 off $500 Advertising offer?
does FI support simultaneous voice and data?
Yes.
Hi Dan, was the fact that a google voice number works confirmed with google? Or is it speculation?
Thanks
That is what reps are telling people.
Ask yourself.
how do i contact them?
YOu Pray….
is there a way to activate the phone and then deactivate without having to open the and unsela the box? so i can give it after teh 60 days away as a gift? or to resell? thank you
Hi Dan. Being that I use a google voice number through Obi as my home number, if I use that for this Google Fi offer, will I still be able to have the number active on my Google voice account? Or will I need to use a new Google voice number for the Obi
New google voice number
Hi Dan or anyone who can answer this:
Does it make a difference if I use GV from account that is ordering Fi or I need to port GV from another account?
Can you port a Google voice number for promo or does it have to be regular number with a carrier?
You can ise your Google voice number
This scares me
Gift cards may also be subject to the terms of the travel partners.
No idea why that would scare you. Everything has terms.
I’m worried that it’s going to be a voucher with a short expiration and will not be able to sell on cardcash, cardpool etc
Stop worrying. It says gift card, not voucher.
Any Idea how for how long you can redeem the gift card?
Dan, can I port a landline?
will this work with a dumb phone?
No.
So if I understand correctly…
I buy a Pixel 3 $999, after 4 months I choose a $999 gift card. Then can cancel the service?
Also, would I be able to activate 5 new lines on one GMAIL account and be elegible for 5 of this promotion?
– yes
– no , it’s limited 1 per person. Trust Google to know if it’s actually 1 person with 5 email ..
I handle the billing for my own phone as well as the phones of two family members. Can I sign up all three of us, under three separate names, but charge them all to the same credit card? Or will Google consider that a single person and invalidate two of the promos?
can you prepay in advance? because there are reports of google fi triggering the amex offer of 100 off 500 in advertising
I hear purchasing the phone will trigger the $100 off $500. IDK about paying in advance.
Can I use a flip phone with Google Fi and then easily switch to a smart phone when necessary?
Bump.
Can someone please answer?
Thank you.
Don’t think so, but you can enter the sim in to the phone you get, and just let it sit there for 4 months. Then you may sell it
Dan, will i get 5% with Chase ink from this merchant?
Sure, but only on the monthly bill, not on a phone.
my Chase ink card does not get 5%, well at least I think.
Only allowing bring your own phone, not buy a phone
Buy phone is dead! Only bring your own phone.
Any reason it might change anything if you finance Phone instead of paying upfront (they offer 0% financing, any reason not to do that?)?
That’s fine.
I chose “Get a new number” and I’m still getting the “V” next to “Travel on Google Fi $799 in travel gift cards” under Promotions. Does that mean it’s not necessary to transfer a number?
If i buy the phone and activate it in America but a week later bring it to Israel and leave it on and activated in Israel for 4 months will that work?
Can some please share a screenshot of a chat rep saying that Google Voice numbers will work, just in case there are issues down the line.
agreed!
Not going to switch, but this is too good of a deal to pass up. The credit alone is excellent. Just bought the pixel 3 xl; worst case i keep it for the 4 months and don’t use it (maybe just to try out fi; last time I used it years back t-mo and sprint were so bad it was useless, and sprint is still awful in my area, but t-mo is ok). $60 (with the credit thanks Dan, and your welcome for the $20 back) plus a $200-$300 4-month rental cost if I end up selling the phone after the period is perfectly fine by me, especially with the $1K of travel credit.
Question:
Can I activate the service with a Google voice number, keep it active for 6 months but during the six months use it with Sprint? In other words, can I activate the phone, forget about the Fi thing for 6 months (during the 6 months use the phone with Sprint) and then cancel the Fi service?
Thanks!!
This is the burning question….. Do I need to let this thing sit for 4 months before I can use it on my regular plan?
What is your referral code? Link is not filling it in
after an hour wait on the phone the rep told me that google voice is NOT considered a carrier and not eligible for the travel gift card
Rep said that it is as long as it’s from before 8/28.
HUCA.
I’m also getting only the option to bring your own phone but not to buy a phone. Is buying a phone Dead?
If you have a google voice number you WILL lose it once you port in your actual cell phone number. Just a fare warning.
Why can’t I port it back out after 4 months?
If I want to port 2 numbers, mine and my husband’s, do I need to set it up as 2 separate accounts in order to get the $200 account credit twice or can I set up one account with an additional user? Also, how long do I need to keep my service with Google fi in order to keep the credits? If I change my plan back as soon as my credits are used up, will I be fine?
“You can use your Google Fi phone as a hotspot and you can even get a free data only SIM for other devices to use at the same low rate per GB anywhere in the world”
Does this mean that I can have 2 active sims at the same to for the price one unlimited plan?
Thank Dan!
Does anyone know if these phone be TAG filtered?
I have numbers from 8/28/18 and beyond if anyone is interested. I can you a screenshot to verify the age of the account. Email me at ccwireless9907@gmail.com
Can you pay monthly or only outright?
You can pay monthly for 24 months
Sorry, should have been more clear. I meant to get the GC.
Yes, you can.
How long can I pause the plan before they deactivate or start charging?
Thanx Dan!
You can pause it as often as you want. Each pause lasts for 90 days.
So I would be able to pause for 3 months than pay 1 month and than pause again? Live in Israel and trying to find cheapest way to hold number till I move back.
No need to pay for a month, just renew the pause.
Won’t he lose the GCs?
Why don’t you just port your number to Google Voice and pay nothing? You’d even be able to make and receive calls and texts in Israel on that number using the Google Voice app.
You might want to clarify that if he does this during the first 75 days without first having 60 days in a row without pauses, he will lose the gift cards…..
I have Verizon. Is it possible to forward calls to a Google voice number when I’m abroad?
Sure.
Do you have to keep the account active for 6 months of the year?
No, read the post.
Did the 4G LTE work well in Israel? My verizon did not have any reception in many areas, and even my Golan sim was terrible compared to Celcom
my reciept doesnt give me proof of the gift card or the $20 promo, is that normal?
Dan serious question. I have a buisiness account with over 100 lines. Approx 45 of them being tablets. My bill is about 5k per month at verizon. Is this something that will work for business ? Granted there is no way I can do the switch for my company by 11:59pm
Side note Your paying too much
Stupid question since I have only been on Cricket. If the new phone switches to Wifi on Google Fi in the house, does the data on the wifi still count toward the data billing or only when I am out and about? Thanks!
No. You don’t pay Fi (or Cricket or any other cell company) for data you use over WiFi.
Would I be able to port my cell number from work? The number is in my name, but the phone is under the business plan
Can I port one of my T-Mobile family plan numbers. Just want to make sure it will not switch the whole plan.
Sure.
it says ill get it by dec 18. what if they ship it tommorow with surepost from calafornia like they did with google home mini from spotify. then itll be 15 days from shipment before you get a chance to activate
never mind i cancelled. dont want to risk it
Can I sell the gift cards ?
Sure.
Do you have to port-in your number if your a new customer to get the gift cards?
Yes.
Also, can my husband and I both get new phones if we are current members, its confusing bc it says one per person not one per account so wanted to confirm.
Orderd two sims. So, now since I still dont have the sim yet, the lines are not activated and it will take couple of days to get the sims. Will I get $200 credit once I get the sims and activate? Thanks
Once I port a number can I change that number in a couple of days/weeks?
Hi dan.
Can I port a land line?
HI should I be see the credit prior to checking out I got up submitting my google pay info but nothing should the gift card credit
Is it possible to activate the Pixel 3 XL 128GB phone without opening the phone in order sell the phone right away as brand-new, and still get the $999 gift card as long as I keep the service for 4 months?
Yes, I am wondering the same thing. Does anyone know?
Bad idea. WAY too risky to do this deal to resell….
Can I choose which gift card to get?
Yes.
Hi dan;
Can I port a land line number?
Can anyone explain how this works if I want to maintain my current carrier as well? I’m on a family plan that I don’t want to give up just yet, but I do need a new phone so this seems like a perfect deal in that I’d essentially be getting a new phone for just $80. I’m just not sure how the process works if I only have one number.
You’ll need to port in a phone number, if you can’t give up your primary number do you have a number that can be ported in that’s been active since August 18th?
Thanks Dan, I went for it with your link. My old Cricket Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime had so little memory that I had to delete an app to add another all the time, and I need a better camera. I had an unlocked Iphone SE just to take pics at concerts, so the Pixel 3 XL is supposed to be better. I am going to the entire UK Paul McCartney tour courtesy of Miles, hotel points, and bank opening bonuses so this will be so cool to take with me!! Thanks for the info on this, you rock!
so if i port my current smartphone number to google fi (and buy a phone thru google fi), when someone calls, both phones will ring about the same time?
Pixel 3 XL
128 GB, Just Black, SIM-free setup
You are not going to get a SIM card to switch
Dan, it seems that you like an existing customer may get this Pixel 3 XL 128 GB without bringing the new number. Would you do it?
Congrats Dan on getting 100 years worth of free service from Google Fi for all the referrals
Lol. Sadly the benefit is capped.
Pretty sure I saw that referral code change a few times….. 🙂
Can I use $199 credit toward activation fee and first few months of service, or credit comes in later
When do we get the gift cards?
I dont see that option at checkout.
Read the post.
In for 2. Thank you very much
Got a Moto6…Thank you Dan
what is the amex offer of 100 off 500 in advertising?
Is porting in a number required for both offers, or only the $200 credit? That is, if I buy a phone, will I still get the gift cards if they issue me a new phone number?
Oops. I see the T and C now. Porting a number is required.
Dan, I see u can pause the plan, but is there away to cancel the plan?
Hi,
I purchased a pixel 3 on a new fi account on 25th Nov 2018 with the black Friday offers($200 price off and $200 credit note)..phone has shipped and is in transit. am waiting for the last 90 min to connect to the customer rep to see if I get a price match or switch to the current travel voucher option. Any suggestions or input if this works ? Still on call wait..the lines seem really jammed
Do you have to pay the phone in full when you sign up for it
No, you could finances it.
I currently use Google Voice to forward to my phone’s underlying phone number (and also to my work phone). If I port the underlying number, will the existing GV account still forward to it? Alternatively, if I port the GV number itself, will I still be able to forward to other phones through the GV interface?
Also – does the port take place immediately, or will it wait until the new phone arrives?
Thanks Dan
If I bring my phone and choose to get the $200 credit and bringing two lines is it 200 per line or just 200 for the account.
if it’s per an account is it worth just opening two separate accounts in order to get 200 peraccount one for me and one for my life
can i port in a number from a preloaded 30 days t mobile ?
Do I have to take the phone out of the box and insert sim for it to be considered activated?
also had to re-enter dans code – DNR1F8
are you saying that if you did not have the grandfathered verizon plan then you would have switched to fi? and is there a way to have your google number as your regular number that even when you make calls via the google voice app using data and not the phone line that it would stay the same number? trying to figure out a way to keep one phone number for everything international travel ad domestic use, instead of having 2 different phones, 2 sim cards, 2 numbers, keep everything compact into one thing makes life easier
I can confirm that you can port a GV number. In fact, if you sign in with a Google account that has a GV number attached, it’ll offer to port that number.
I ported mine since i only use it for voice mail and intl calls, so I’ll just open a new one.
I also added $100 credit for exchanging my old S7 Edge that was just collecting dust.
Dans Referral code is DNR1F8
Thank you Dan. I chose an Airbnb gift card.
BTW, Google will not know if the number you transferred in was yours since August (assuming the number is currently not a Google number.) It can just as easily be a brand new number from another provider.
can you post the referral code? the link didn’t activate the $20 credit offer
Too bad Google is evil.
Can I port in my Sprint number??
Can I port in my Sprint number after I bought with a google voice number, then port Sprint back to Sprint?
So I’ve had google voice since 2013 but haven’t done anything with it for years. Just checked my account and I think it was created when you didn’t have to have a number associated (?). it is asking me to select a number. Do you think that choosing a number would count as a new number (invalid for promo) or still work since I’ve had the account for years?
Does anyone know which gift card has the highest resale value?
Thanks
CAN i port an ooma number?
How do they know it was activated 08/28
Just placed order thanks! My confirmation email didn’t say anything about gift card promo, was it supposed to? (I took a screenshot of confirmation page just in case)
I have the same question. I am afraid to purchase as the checkout page does not even mention I am getting a future gift card and I am porting in a valid GV phone number from pre today?
Can i port in Google voice number of the account im signing up with?
If I buy a phone through FI, can I leave the service running and just use the old phone with my old carrier during the initial 4 months?
Can I pause the talk and text (after 4 months) and use the sim and pay only for data usage?
At what point can I resell the phone? If I move the service to another device (i.e. keep the service) am I ok?
i think the 999 phone is oos
I ported in my google phone number however my google phone number is linked to forward calls to my regular number should i be concerned that my regular sprint number will get shlepped into the google fi?
This offer is available for new Google Fi customers as of 11/28/18 12:00 AM PT and existing, active Google Fi customers. If the customer is new to Google Fi, the customer must transfer (port-in) their current personal number over to Google Fi during sign up. The number being transferred must be currently active and have been active with the previous carrier and the customer since 8/28/18 12:00 AM PT.
This sounds like you can’t use your current GV number to qualify for the promo? Can someone clarify please?
Can I do the monthly payments and still get the gift cards??
anyone have an extra google voice number from before 8/28?
Is it possible to use the google fi on iPhone after we signed up? I bought the Pixel 3 but it won’t ship til Jan 2019, just trying to expedite the waiting period for the travel gc.
Dan – I plan on getting the phone and then im leaving the country on vacation for a month. If i keep it active while out of the country, am I safe? Or does it need to be active in the US?
I cant figure out, if I port my google voice number which I use for my google messages from my home and verizon cell, also if I call google voice it rings on both those phones, can I continue to use it or I need to sign up with new?
I was in the middle of checking out, and now I don’t see the promotion mentioned on the site …
https://support.google.com/fi/thread/643233?hl=en
This happened to me as well. Did they pull the offer early?

UPDATE: The Travel on Fi with Any Device Purchase promotion is no longer available on fi.google.com or store.google.com. Even though we ran out of gift cards, don’t worry– we have other exciting deals for you. Check them out here.
Deal for travel gift card is dead
Is this dead? No offer information is on the website.
Do I have to activate the phone I’m getting from them or can I get the phone from them, activate MY OWN phone and then sell the Pixel 3 (their phone)…..??

looks like the mention to the promo is now gone. The Pixel 3 show sonly a $100 service credit.
Is the deal dead?
On the $200 BYOD option, you get the credit after about 3 months on the plan which means even if I get the $20.00 credit, I will still need to pay $40.00 out of pocket before I get the $200.00 credit. I was hoping to get the credit right away and use the credit for 3 months then pause my line for international use.
will this work if i trade in my old phone?
Is this dead?
It seems like it is
Seems like it’e dead now you only see $100 Google Fi credit
DEAD AS A DOORKNOB. THANKS GOOGLE FOR NOT KEEPING TO YOUR DEADLINE.
“DO NO EVIL” AS ALWAYS
their term was “or will supply last”
This is so annoying. I was in middle of signing up…. and this time we can’t even blame all those “in for two dozen” people 🙂
think they’ll relent and extend the deadline? not very good pr….
Dan, did they end this promo early?
At checkout I don’t see anything specifically about the gift card reimbursement? It shows “Pixel Holiday Promo” as “$100 Future Fi Credit” and thats it? No mention of the Gift Card promo. When I click the terms to see the details it also doesn’t mention anything about the gift card promo.
Yes, read the post updates…
Yeah, glad I noticed the terms changed before I submitted my order.
This is pretty low of Google to advertise a specific end time and end it earlier. If Google had at least said something like “offer is limited quantities” or “while supplies last”
I guess I spent too much time looking at my Amex offers to see which card had the offer.
Exactly, seems very arrogant of them. They didn’t even hedge the offer with all those categorical statements about “limited supplies” it was just outright offered and then rescinded.
Wrong. Terms said while supplies last….
FYI, I had trouble checking out. Got through everything just to receive the message “Uh oh
There was a problem loading your cart.” After a bunch of frustration and inability to get any customer service, I realized it might be that what I picked (Pixel 3 128gb) was sold out, so I went back and changed it. That got me to the checkout page fine, but now in addition to showing the $20 for Dan’s promo, it said something about $100 for activating a new Pixel 3. I’m afraid that they switched me out of the gift card promo. I have emailed, and tried submitting for a callback (did it once, got called immediately, told up to 30 minute wait and then a minute or so later the message said we’re busy right now, try back later and hung up). So just FYI to anyone else trying this. Great deal, but horribly frustrating ordering process.
How do you know if you qualified for the Travel promo? My receipt doesn’t say anything about the promo?
For anyone with questions about the fi promo, just finally got through to them to confirm I am getting the GCs. A few things.
1. It sounded like they are possibly determining your eligibility based purely on order time (at least at the fi agent level, not sure about behind the scenes in the system). They are saying the promo ended at 10:00 PM Eastern. You can base it on the time of the email confirmation. If your email is 10:00 or later, you can contact them to find out if you are eligible. Not sure how they will do that. Maybe they see exact order time on their end.
2. Apparently only the Project Fi team can see what needs to be seen to determine e if you are eligible. It’s either the exact time of order or something else more explicit.
3. To contact that team:
A) 844-825-5234
B) Request a chat or call back via https://fi.google.com/account#support You must choose a non-order related topic from the list or you will get the wrong team.
C) If you already have Fi previously, you can request a callback via the Google Fi app. Don’t install this on any other phone, as it will try to activate your Fi service on your old cell.
i did join the deal while it was live, but i can’t find anywhere that mentions the promotion ..
where can i find that ?
ordered, just see the update that it’s dead. didn’t see any mention about gift card, but thought that maybe it doesn’t have to say anything.
What should i do now? cancel the order? let it ship & then return to at least get the amex offer? keep it & then have a fight with google?
If your order was after 10:00 I would cancel. Call if you are within the 5 minutes Dan said it ended on (10:05)
My order confirmation has no mention of the promo. Is that ok or did others receive a confirmation?
1. What denomination do the gift cards come in?
2. Are we able to split the GC’s between the options available?
3. Still haven’t seen anyone answer if you’re able to port a land line. I have one from Time Warner Cable…?
if i just got a google voice number after 8/28 can i port it over or i stnad a chacne to lose the gift card deal?
i got in a few hours ago, got amex 100 credit, and it showed the 999 travel gc promo all the way through, but doesn’t mention it anywhere in any emails from them, so i have no proof now, am i good?
is there w way to activate the phone by keeping the box sealed so you can resell? is there a chance you wont get approved for the gc if your gv number is brand new?
I placed the order buy. Can i port number from ooma ???
So, there’s nothing binding about Google saying this offer was to end 11:59 PST?
Nope. Terms said while supplies last
Are you sure you can sell the gift cards? It says in the conditions” Offer and gift card redemption are not transferable, and are not valid for cash”
Dead?!?
Read the post updates.
For those that completed a new phone purchase before 10:05 pm eastern, can we expect google to make good on travel cards? Even if no notification at checkout?
Yes.
Fi agent is claiming it ended at 10:00 exactly.
Is the offer for a $200 credit still LIVE?
Yes.
See this on promotion page.
“Thanks for the interest in Google Fi today—those travel gift cards flew off the shelves. We’re out of gift cards, but not to worry, we have other exciting deals for you.”
I wonder what it means.
we can return the $999 phone if google decides not to honor the gift card promotion for those of us who got in around the cutoff and paid the full $999 price, right?
I’m pretty sure there’s a restocking fee
I was told it is for full refund.
Just signed up but only got a $100 credit. Still a great deal though. Thanks Dan!
your link isn’t working
My wife put her order thru, and got her e-mail at EXACTLY 10:05 PM, it showed the gift cards all the way thru but not in the e-mail. Will she still get the gift cards??
Don’t think so. Check this out.
For anyone with questions about the fi promo, just finally got through to them to confirm I am getting the GCs. A few things.

Thank you! Can I cancel the order though, based on this that the gift cards showed all the way thru? Order was probably actually submitted at 10:03-04
If I were you I would not cancel your order until after you contact the FI team either by calling or the other methods that I listed. I believe some people are also emailing them but I do not know the address
The reason I’d think to cancel is because until it ships, it can be cancelled. My own order went thru at 9:28 so I can always add my wife to my account. She doesn’t need the Pixel, I’d sell it anyway. I don’t wanna get stuck paying $800+ and not get the GC’s.
Why are you saying not to cancel? Sounds like it takes forever getting thru to customer service.
Because you’re missing the opportunity of getting a really great deal on this phone by canceling without first checking if you’re getting the gift cards. I think it’s worth the time to find that out before but obviously that is your decision if you want to spend the time
Why is Dan saying it ended 10:05? You say reps are saying 10 PM??
Well one of us is definitely wrong but it could also be that the reps are wrong. As I suggested, anyone whose order is placed at 10 p.m. or later recommend contacting the FI team before doing anything
I just competed the purchase from a browser page I had opened hours ago. I was just waiting for me to confirm payment to which CC. I did it now and it confirmed the deal on the browser page and mentioned the travel credit. I never went backwards on the browser page. So hopefully I am completed with the original deal.
Eager to see. Is there a way to check? I am using my GV number and ordered the Pixel 3 XL.
I would say u are not getting any GCs…. Sorry
H 11:54 PM
so that means a google voice is included for personal number?
Vinitha11:57 PM
Yes, the number being transferred must be currently active and have been active with the previous carrier and customer since 8/28/18 12:00 AM PT.
Vinitha11:57 PM
You need to select port in option during sign up process.
i took a screenshot but forgot to save it.. any way to check you are eligible? i pinged support .. hopefully they will reply
I never used my google voice number will I still be able to port it over?
As long as it was active before the required date in the post, and it is still active today, then yes. If you sign into Google voice now and it asks you to choose a new number, no

Does anyone know what their coverage is like in the US?? I currently have Sprint.
My order went through at 5:35 EST. At the time the checkout indicated gift card, but I see no mention of it in order status or email. Is that normal?
Also, what is this AMEX $100 people are mentioning?
Yes, you should be okay on the gift cards. Amex cards give customers “offers”, apparently you do not have Amex cards? Either way; if you didn’t pay with that Amex card you get no $100 credit.
I do have amex, and used one of them to pay. Was it specific cards (e.g., business) or a specifically targeted offer?
Yes, it was a targeted offer, like most AMEX offers. And I believe it was a business card offer, it was classified as “advertising ” expense, apparently because it’s Google….
Reps are saying it cut off at 10 PM EST (7 PM Pacific Time) sharp due to selling out
Do i need to wait the 4 months to use the device on another carrier? Can i activate the device on google FI, and then immediately pull the SIM out, pay for 4 months of service before cancelling, and use the Device on Verizon immediately?
Dan,
Does the voicemail work when the service is paused? What happens if someone calls that number?
Also, do you know if I can forward a GV number to my Google Fi phone (is it like forwarding a GV number to another GV number which won’t work)
Thanx
Despite my order going through successfully, it was cancelled because Google Payments suspended my account due to “suspicious activity.” Google Payments requested copies of my i.d. to verify who I am, which I provided, but they need 24-48 hours to process. Google Fi says I will have to order again to replace my cancelled order and will therefore not be eligible for the expired promotion. Do I have any recourse?
so, can anyone confirm if you can activate the new phone and fir service and then remove the fi sim, leaving it active, and use the new phone with another sim for the first 120 days?
I am also trying to figure that out….my chanukah gift may become a pesach present lol
David/Aryeh, were you able to confirm this? I also want to swap back my old SIM card.
For those worried about the GCs actually coming through, I just got an email from Google titled ‘Next steps for your travel gift card from Google Fi’. Here’s the content:
Thanks for celebrating the new Google Fi with us! You’re on your way to earning your travel gift card with your qualifying order GS.xxxx-xxxx-xxxx. Here’s what you need to know about next steps.
After 75-90 days on Google Fi, you will receive another email with your travel reward link if you have satisfied the other terms and conditions of the promotion. You’ll be able to redeem travel gift cards with Airbnb, Delta Air Lines, Hotels.com, and Southwest Airlines, and enjoy Fi where your travels may take you.
These are some of the important terms and conditions (below) you’ll need to satisfy to receive your gift card.
• Activate your phone within 15 days of device shipment and remain active for 60 consecutive days following.
• If you’re new to Google Fi, you will need to transfer your personal number to Fi from your current carrier. Your number must have been created prior to 8/28/18 12:00 AM PT.
• You will receive your rewards link in 75-90 days, but if you cancel your Fi service prior to 120 days or pause your account for more than 7 days, you will be charged the value of the gift card.
• There is a limit of one promotion per person.
• You can access the full terms and conditions here and refer to general FAQ about the promotion here.

Happy travels,

what’s the cheapest phone thats google FI compatible?
There are 2 parts to this question.
You need to activate it on a compatible phone. Once the sim is activated, you can remove the sim card and put it into any gsm sim phone.
I used my verixon galaxy s8, downloaded the google-fi app, inserted the google-fi sim, and activated the google fi sim. I then took out the sim and put back in my verizon sim, and that phone works back regularly on Verizon. So basically, you can borrow anyone’s phone for a few minutes to activate your sim and then use the sim in a different phone.
I now use the google fi on a Tmobile galaxy 5 (does not need to be unlocked from tmobile). I tried it on a verizon galaxy 5, and it worked, but it’s not gsm, so its not as good. I even tried inserting the sim in an old LG dumbphone, and it worked!!!! (so yes, this service will work with kosher phones, as long as it is first activated on a smartphone, and the dumbphone has a slot for a gsm sim)
Has anyone figured out if you can activate then use on a different carrier
I’ve been doing that for two days now, since I received my 3 XL, and don’t see the problem.
Google Fi is not on pause when I have my T-Mobile sim inside so it seems to be fine.
Received the phone and now am having a devil of a time activating it for the deal, keeps saying to scan a QR code and I don’t seem to have one. I was on cricket which is not on their drop down, I did everything on the order screen to start the number transfer, I am feeling really stupid right now, what am I missing.
If Cricket isn’t on their drop-down list, try selecting At&t instead.
With byod once I receive sim do the credits apply right away and I have free $20 a month service or takes time to kick in.
“Customer will receive an email notifying them of the service credit after all terms and conditions have been satisfied, and the credit will be applied to the customer’s subsequent bills around 45 – 60 days after activation. If the account is paused, credits will only appear once the account is reactivated.”
They bill u the next day after u activate because u always pay the $20 for the coming months phone and text service. U get billed for the data at the end of the month. However, they sent me an email that I will be getting the $20 credit for using Dan’s referral on my next bill. Hopefully by the time the following bill will be charged, the $200 credit will kick in
For the $200 plan with credits when does the line have to be activated by?
Please note the Pixel 3 XL is now on sale for $850, $150 cheaper than this deal. IF you bought with a credit card that has price protection then you can request a credit from your credit card company.
thanks!
Please please can you help? Google Fi originally told me i can switch to a physical sim with another carrier, and the the service will still be active, adn ill still get the promo. i did not get a written letter to that effect. and now they are saying i wont be eligble!
I did that and kept my Fi service active. Just checked in with them and they said I’ll be getting the vouchers
Has anyone received the vouchers yet?
Hasn’t been enough time yet.
